My house is a disaster, my girls have been wearing their pjs for 2 weeks straight, we've been living on fast food, and I have had to survive on barely any sleep, but I'm finally finished. I am so excited to announce my website:

When I started doing photography a year ago I met several photographers that I really looked up to and admired their work. Scott Myler is one of those photographers and continues to be one. In my opinion his creative lighting work is unmatched. You... can imagine my surprise when he asked me to take some pictures of him since it was about time he updated his profile picture on Facebook. Second Chances

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO ME!!!!!!
Today marks exactly one year since I bought my D300 and entered this wonderfully amazing world of photography. I had two goals for my one year mark. One, to have the D700 and two, to have a website up. Well, I bought the D700 last week, and I am working around the clock to get my website finished! It should be done by the end of this week.

For everyone wanting to see what my new baby can do, here is my first shoot with her. My D300 was named "The Beast" since my hubby called us beauty and the beast. Now it's time to name my D700. Right now I can't decide between "Belle" to go with "The Beast" or my hubby's pick of "Roxy". Any thoughts? Can you think of a better one?

I named this post "Second Chances" for this engagement shoot I just did. Life can be unfair and full of heartache but sometimes something wonderful happens and two completely amazing people are given a second chance. These two are so in love and deserve all the happiness they have. They feel like family to me now and I can't wait to shoot their wedding in three weeks.

My best friend in High School came to Utah for a family reunion. I'm so glad I got a chance to see her and her adorable kids. I keep in touch with all 5 of my high school friends. Together we were the foxy 5! I just wish I could see them more often. There is a reunion in the works though so hopefully it will happen soon!

Off to college to be on her own for the first time. She didn't get any senior pictures done and I told her it was not too late!
My niece is wanting to get into photography so she asked her cousin, Hannah, if she would be our model for a training shoot. I have to say this is my favorite shoot ever. I can't pick favs so I won't, I'll just put a few here and then add a link so you can go see all of them. This girl cannot take a bad picture and believe it or not, this was her first time doing a professional shoot. She has never modeled in her life. Can you believe how natural she is?

This is my niece - she learned quickly from auntie Sue that you do whatever it takes to get your shot!

I am in the process of editing a California family's pictures. When I got to these pictures of their daughter, something jumped out at me and I had to post them. There is a beauty about this girl that is absolutely breathtaking and I realize what it is. She has a pureness and innocence about her that you don't see in many teenage girls nowadays. She also looks so confident, like she knows who she is and doesn't try to pretend to be anything else. How amazing it is to see it in her pictures.

Lately when I do my sessions I really focus on the childrens' faces. I always take the full body shots so it shows how little they are but then I try to get in really close and focus on thier eyes and expressions. That is what I like to remember about my kids. It's their sweet little faces that change so quickly and I want to capture how they are that day forever.

I was approached by this guy a week ago on Facebook and he asked if I would do some pictures for his portfolio. He is moving to New York tomorrow and wants to model there. I've never done anything like this so of course I agreed and I am so glad I did!

Price Change

The time has come for me to raise my prices. Sucks, I know, but my editing skills have become a lot more advanced and take longer now. Trust me, it's worth it and it won't be by much! I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that has been thinking about scheduling with me. I'm waiting until the end of this week (Saturday August 8th) to schedule an appointment for sometime this year at my current prices. After that, the new prices will be applied.

I just wanted to throw in a couple of pictures I just edited of my sweet Lu. Since I have been so busy the pictures I take of my kids have taken a back seat so I spent the weekend catching up a bit.

She is my binky baby and is going to be so sad because it's time to take them away!

National Photowalk

Last Saturday was a Nationwide Photowalk that thousands of photographers from all over the country participated in. I'm so glad I went. It was a blast.

This is my neice that is a budding photographer and modeled for me!

My niece again, but a huge thanks to Steph who had the idea to have her lay on the bench.

This is one of my favs of the day and it's of my son. He is becoming quite the photographer himself. I am so impressed with some of the shots he got that day!

This is my friend from High School. She was passing through Utah and wanted me to take pictures of her and her girls. She reminded me of a funny story. She is two years older than me and in High School she taught me how to drive even though I was too young. I was driving her jeep and saw a police car so I turned off the car and took out the keys. I don't know why I thought that would stop the car. It just kept rolling down the street. Too bad my driving hasn't gotten much better!

I'm exhausted after last week. I had 5 shoots plus Father's Day pictures! I only have 2 of the shoots edited so far but as I get them done this week I will be sure to post them. I also have another 3 shoots this week so there will be lots of pictures coming! Here is some I am absolutely CRAZY about. I took these of my neice and nephew for their birthdays they had this month. My niece turned 3 and my nephew nurned 5. I got a new blue chair and I am LOVING it!!!! If you recognize the clothes, yes, they are my daughter's Matilda Jane stuff. I let clients borrow them for sessions since they photograph better that any other clothes I've seen.

My neighbor is having a baby and a friend threw a shower for her. So much fun to get together with other women with no kids around!

It was a diaper shower so of course they had a diaper cake!

By they way, she is the 9 month prego lady. You can't even tell. NOT fair.

We played a fun game where they melted different types of candy bars into separate diapers and we had to guess what type of candy bar it was! Ewe. What a great weight loss idea. Now whenever I go to buy a candy bar I will think of my baby's gross diapers and get sick. Nice.

I love Park City, Utah for so many reasons. Most people love it for the fabulous skiing in the winter. I love it in the summer. It's such a cool little town and there are thousands of picture perfect locations. My family and I walked down 2 blocks of Main St. and got this many different looks!

Yeah, my girl is pouting in every picture! I think she does the pouty face better than smiling! I love the variety so I just let her do whatever she was in the mood to do.
At least she was in the mood to smile for this next one and I LOVE her cute little feet!

I never have and never will be against a little bribery! It goes a looooong way with the little ones!

This is my favorite shot from the day. I love the look on her face and the dark reds and lines behind her. Of course my girls new Matilda Jane outfits make the pictures too. These clothes photograph so amazingly!

I have to be the luckiest mom in the world. This guy is all mine and he is amazing. He also is the perfect model for me! Isn't he gorgeous?

I learned how to do textures finally! I really like what they add to a picture. Thank you Steph for teaching me!

These last two pics are to show how absolutely AMAZING my new lens is. About a month ago, I added a Nikkor 24-70 mm f/2.8 to my bag (which is now back-breakingly heavy!) Anyway, the picture above is what I took in camera and below is the same exact picture cropped 100%. Can you believe how crisp it is? This lens ROCKS!!!! It is now my new fav of course!

Today was so gorgeous I got my girls out of the house and met my friend at Gardner Village where she was doing a family shoot and took some of my cuties!

Can I just say I am so in love with all these shelf ones!!

As usual not many of my little Lu turned out. She is just too fast and she never looks at the camera. I still wouldn't trade her for anything.

Abby is my little flower picker. I tell her not to, but she just wants to take them all home with her!

It's all about the eyes

I've been getting a lot of questions about how I edit eyes in my pictures so here it is!

I do all this in Lightroom using the brushes. You can do the same thing in Photoshop using the burn and dodge tools but it's so much easier in Lightroom!

First, I take a premade brush that adds exposure, brightness, saturation, and clarity. I go over the entire eye with it. Sometimes this is enough for the look I want.

If I want to make the eye more dramatic, I take a new brush for negative exposure and darken the entire pupil and around the edge of the iris where it is naturally darker. (Thanks Brittany for the tip!) Usually this is enough for the look I want. If the color in the iris doesn't pop enough, I will use the same brush from step one and brighten it even more. If the white part of the eye looks yellow or grey, I use a brush to desaturate and brighten the white areas.

Here are some before and afters so you can see the effect of this process.

You'll notice the change is very subtle. That is what you want - just a little pop. If you do it too much they eyes can look really fake and I'm not a fan of that look.

Here are some pics from a bridal shoot I just did. I will do a post after she gets married of all my favs but wanted to use these because they have such a dramatic before and after look. The before pictures are the ones straight out of the camera with no editing.

The Beach Is The Best Place On Earth

Welcome Home

It's always good to be home from vacation, for the first 5 minutes that is! Then life gets back to normal and you have to play catch up for the next several days. No wonder most people need a vacation from their vacation! We had a blast though. Here are some highlights from the trip.

Haven't I Mentioned What An Airhead I Am?

Yesterday I spent the day with my friend David Terry and his daughter Cassie shooting a wedding. The plan was to meet at the temple at 10 am. For most people this would be simple. For me, not so much! I showed up at the Salt Lake City temple at 10 am and took a couple of pictures of the temple since the sky was so amazing. Then I got a text from David saying, "You're at Bountiful, right?" Haha. I'm a dork. Good thing the Bountiful temple was only 20 minutes away. Only in Utah do photographers have to worry about which Mormon temple the wedding is!!!
